Taxonomy
Lotosaurus was named by Zhang (1975). Its type is Lotosaurus adentus. It was considered monophyletic by Nesbitt (2011).
It was assigned to Ctenosauriscidae by Carroll (1988); to Rauisuchidae by Parrish (1993); to Poposauroidea by Weinbaum and Hungerbühler (2007); to Poposauroidea by Nesbitt (2011); and to Lotosauridae by Zhang (1975) and Sennikov (2012).
