Hamites vancouverensis was named by Gabb (1864).

It was recombined as Exiteloceras vancouverense by Anderson (1958); it was recombined as Didymoceras vancouverense by Matsumoto (1960); it was recombined as Didymoceras vancouverensis by Atabekyan and Khakimov (1976).
