Taxonomy
Lacuna carpenteri was named by Anderson and Martin (1914). Its type specimen is CAS 147 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is CAS loc. 65, northeast of Barker's Ranch, which is in a Miocene coastal horizon in the Temblor Formation of California.
