Diagnosis
| Reference | Diagnosis | |
|---|---|---|
| C. C. Coppock et al. 2024 | Tyrannosaurines diagnosed by the following synapomorphies provided by Carr et al. (2017): subcutaneous surface of the maxilla is extremely coarse with deep sulci anterior to the antorbital fossa; presence of a laterally ex- pressed accessory cornual process of the lacrimal posterior to primary cornual process (found to be ontogenetically invariant herein); dorsal margin of the anterior ramus of the lacrimal concealed by subcutaneous surface in lateral view; cornual process of the postorbital closely approaches laterotemporal fenestra; anterior tip of the postorbital process of the squamosal is posterior to the anterior margin of the laterotemporal fenestra; nasal process of the frontal possesses an anteroposteriorly elongate ridge; deep keel-like flange below stem of vomer; primary recess opening of the palatine is in-line with, or posterior to, the anterior margin of the vomeropterygoid process neck; mediolaterally oriented ridge on dorsolateral surface of the laterosphenoid; rounded anterior margin of the dentary with the transition between anterior and ventral margins located ventral to alveoli 1–3; 13 or more maxillary teeth. |
