Trichasaurus was named by Williston (1913). It is not extant. Its type is Trispondylus texensis.
It was assigned to Edaphosauria by Romer and Price (1940); to Pelycosauria by Reisz (1986); to Pelycosauria by Carroll (1988); and to Caseidae by Hay (1930), Olson (1968) and Benson (2012).
