Archaeosyodon was named by Tchudinov (1960). It is not extant. Its type is Archaeosyodon praeventor.
It was assigned to Brithopodidae by Carroll (1988); to Brithopodinae by King (1988); to Titanosuchidae by Ivakhnenko (2003); and to Anteosauridae by Battail and Surkov (2000), Kammerer (2011).
