Taxonomy
Actinophorus clarkii was named by Newberry (1888). It is the type species of Tegeolepis, Actinophorus.

It was recombined as Tegeolepis clarkii by Hay (1902); it was recombined as Tegeolepis clarki by Schultze et al. (2021).
