Taxonomy
Palaeoniscus browni was named by Jackson (1851). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Albert Mines fish collection, which is in a Tournaisian terrestrial shale in the Albert Formation of Canada.

It was recombined as Elonichthys brownii by Hay (1902).
