Oryctocephalites palmeri

Taxonomy
Oryctocephalites palmeri was named by Sundberg and McCollum (1997). Its type specimen is USNM 488926 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Oak Springs Section (ICS-1024), which is in a Dyeran marine horizon in the Pioche Shale Formation of Nevada.

It was recombined as Oryctocephalites (Parachangaspis) palmeri by Yuan and Zhao (2001).

McCollum 1997Cranidium with medially expanded glabella, cir­ cular glabellar pits at the SO to S3 positions, SI transglabellar furrow, longitudinal furrows connecting SI to S3 pits, lateral glabellar furrows not extending to axial furrows, and occipital ring without longitudinal furrows. Seven thoracic segments each with long, cylindrical spine. Pygidium with 5 pairs of cylindrical spines.
