Taxonomy
Athleta mimica was named by Maxwell (2003). Its type specimen is TM 8245, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Waihao River [general], which is in a Bortonian/Kaiatan marine horizon in the Waihao Greensand Formation of New Zealand.
