Taxonomy
Kepolestes was named by Simpson (1927). Its type is Kepolestes coloradensis.

It was synonymized subjectively with Amblotherium by Kielan-Jaworowska et al. (2004).

It was assigned to Dryolestidae by Simpson (1927), Simpson (1929), Hay (1930), Kraus (1979), Prothero (1981), McKenna and Bell (1997).
