Taxonomy
Carcharodon rectus was named by Agassiz (1856).

It was synonymized subjectively with Carcharodon megalodon by Eastman (1904); it was recombined as Carcharocles rectus by Jordan and Hanibal (1923), Soper and Grant and IV (1932); it was synonymized subjectively with Otodus megalodon by Boessenecker et al. (2019).
