Pecten vanwinkleae was named by Clark (1925). Its type specimen is LSJU 39 and is a 3D body fossil.
It was synonymized subjectively with Pecten (Pseudamussium) pedroanus by Grant and IV and Gale (1931); it was recombined as Palliolum (Delectopecten) vanwinkleae by Durham (1944).
