Axinaea barbarensis was named by Conrad (1856). It is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Axinea barbarensis by Conrad (1857) and Conrad (1857); it was recombined as Glycymeris barbarensis by Arnold (1903), Schenck (1945); it was synonymized subjectively with Glycymeris septentrionalis by Willett (1937); it was synonymized subjectively with Glycymeris (Glycymerita) major by Coan et al. (2000); it was considered a nomen dubium by Squires (2010).
