Pseudastur was named by Mayr (1998). Its type is Pseudastur macrocephalus.

It was assigned to Zygodactylidae by Mlikovsky (2002); and to Pseudasturidae by Mayr (1998), Mayr (2002).

G. Mayr 1998 The(asyetunnamed)genus to which the Lower Eocene species "Primobucco" olsoni belongs differs from Pseudastur n. g. in the absence of characters (1) and (2) mentioned above (diagnosis of Pseudastur),in the relativelyshorterulna and longertibiotarsus (tab. 1), and in the wider furcula.
