Pecten (Lyropecten) tamiamiensis was named by Mansfield (1932). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Station 1/1178, Tamiami Trail, Caloosahatchee Fm., Collier County, FL, which is in a Pleistocene marine limestone in the Caloosahatchee Formation of Florida.
It was recombined as Lyropecten tamiamiensis by De Buisonjé (1974).
