Anomalomys was named by Gaillard (1900). It is not extant. Its type is Anomalomys gaudryi.
It was assigned to Spalacinae by Daxner-Höck (1980); to Anomalomyidae by Klein Hofmeijer and de Bruijn (1985); and to Cricetidae by McKenna and Bell (1997).
