Leptotheridium was named by Stehlin (1910). It is not extant.
It was assigned to Cebochoeridae by Carroll (1988); to Dacrytheriidae by McKenna and Bell (1997); and to Xiphodontidae by Cuesta Ruíz-Colmenares et al. (2006), Erfurt and Metais (2007).
