Dorateuthis syriaca

Taxonomy

Dorateuthis syriaca was named by Woodward (1883). Its type specimen is BMNH C 5017 and is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Dorateuthis.

Synonyms

Curculionites senonicus was named by Kolbe (1888). It is a trace fossil. Its type locality is Sahel Alma (Noetling collection), which is in a Santonian carbonate lime mudstone in Lebanon.

It was recombined as Curculidium senonicum by Handlirsch (1907); it was synonymized subjectively with Dorateuthis syriaca by Fuchs (2006), Fuchs and Larson (2011).
Sepialites sahilalmae was named by Naef (1922). Its type specimen is SMNS 26269 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Sahel Alma (SMNS collection), which is in a Santonian carbonate lime mudstone in Lebanon.

It was recombined as Dorateuthis sahilalmae by Engeser and Reitner (1986); it was synonymized subjectively with Dorateuthis syriaca by Fuchs and Larson (2011), Jattiot et al. (2015).
