Taxonomy
Ptychotrygon ledouxi was named by Cappetta (1973). Its type specimen is SDK70, a tooth, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is SE of Hot Springs, which is in a Turonian marine sandstone in the Carlile Shale Formation of South Dakota.
