Taxonomy
Poebrotherium was named by Leidy (1847). Its type is Poebrotherium wilsoni. It is the type genus of Poebrotheriinae.
It was assigned to Poebrotheriinae by Hay (1902), Simpson (1945); to Camelidamorpha by Spaulding et al. (2009); and to Camelidae by Leidy (1847), Lambe (1908), Scott (1940), Carroll (1988), Prothero (1996), Honey et al. (1998), Thewissen et al. (2001), Jiménez-Hidalgo et al. (2015).
