Taxonomy
Turritella vanvlecki hemphilli was named by Applin (1920) [Manuscript names proposed by Esther Richards Applin appear in a dissertation submitted in partial fulfillment of requirements for the degree of Master of Arts at the University of California in 1920.]. Its type specimen is CAS 601, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Turritella gonostoma hemphilli by Winterer and Durham (1962).
