Taxonomy
Ptychoparia laeviceps was named by Walcott (1884). Its type specimen is USNM 24614 and is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Eteraspis laeviceps by Resser (1935); it was recombined as Asaphiscus laeviceps by Palmer (1954).
