Scutella tejonensis was named by Kew (1920). Its type specimen is UCMP 11365 and is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Orchoporus tejonensis by Grant and Hertlein (1938); it was recombined as Vaquerosella tejonensis by Durham (1955).
