Taxonomy
Diaphus endoi was named by Schwarzhans and Ohe (2019). Its type specimen is SMF PO 101024, an otolith, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Tobaru, which is in a Piacenzian deep subtidal shelf mudstone in the Shinzato Formation of Japan.
