Taxonomy
Conger elongatus was named by Sulc (1932) [? Conger elongatus]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Biarritz, which is in a Priabonian deep subtidal marl in France.

It was recombined as Pseudophichthys elongatus by Steurbaut (1984).
