Pinna alamedensis was named by Yates in Cooper (1888). Its type specimen is UCSB-Y474, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Pinna (Atrina) alamadensis by Grant and IV and Gale (1931); it was recombined as Atrina alamedensis by Moore (1983).
