Taxonomy
Cretaceousopisthacanthus smeelei was named by Lourenço (2021). It is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Burmese amber (Smeele collection), which is in a Cenomanian terrestrial amber in Myanmar. It is the type species of Cretaceousopisthacanthus.
