Taxonomy
Icanotia californica was named by Squires and Saul (2006). Its type specimen is LACMIP 13300 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is LACMIP 10883 Santiago Peak, which is in a Turonian shallow subtidal sandstone in the Ladd Formation of California.
