Cheirurus satyrus was named by Billings (1865) [Cheirurus Satyrus].

It was recombined as Pseudosphaerexochus (Nieszkowskia) satyrus by Raymond (1905); it was recombined as Pseudosphaerexochus satyrus by Raymond (1906); it was recombined as Nieszkowskia satyrus by Shaw (1968).
