Taxonomy
Megalaspis gigas was named by Angelin (1878). Its type specimen is Stockholm, Nr . Ar. 21 no., a pygidium, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Megistaspis (Megistaspidella) gigas by Bohlin (1960).
