Taxonomy
Carcinus lorentheyi was named by Müller (1974). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Budapest-Budatétény, area B, which is in a Badenian marine horizon in Hungary.

It was recombined as Pirimela lorentheyi by Müller (1984), Schweitzer et al. (2010).
