Dorypyge swasii was named by Sundberg (1994). Its type specimen is LACMIP 11683, a pygidium, and it is a 3D body fossil.

Sundberg 1994Dorypyge with pygidium having 5 pairs of spines, anterior 4 pairs of lateral spines increasing in length from anterior to posterior, pos- terior pair of spines very short, 4 axial rings, borderincreasing in width posteriorly. Cranidium smooth, glabella with slightly divergent, slightly concave to straight axial furrows; frontal lobe slightly smaller than greatest glabellar width.
