Bourbonnella fourrieri was named by Poplin (2001). Its type specimen is MNHN 2001-5, a skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Carrière des Fouthiaux, which is in a Stephanian B mire/swamp sandstone in the Upper Seams Formation of France.
