Taxonomy
Necrocarcinus insignis was named by Segerberg (1900). It is not extant. It is the type species of Arcticocarcinus.

It was recombined as Arcticocarcinus insignis by Schweitzer et al. (2016) and Schweitzer et al. (2018).
