Eobacterium isolatum was named by Barghoorn and Schopf (1966). It is considered to be a form taxon. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Daylight Mine, Barberton, which is in a Paleoarchean marine chert in South Africa. It is the type species of Eobacterium.
