Taxonomy
Erethizon poyeri was named by Hulbert (1997). Its type specimen is UF 121740, a partial skull (fragmented, incomplete skull with right mandible), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Haile 7C, which is in a Pleistocene terrestrial horizon in Florida.
