| R. L. Squires 2011 | Shell size moderately small to large (up to height 150 mm). Shell fusiform, pyriform to napiform, rarely whorl. Protoconch paucispiral and either trochispirally, lowly helicoidally, or planispirally coiled with smooth whorls (both embryonic and larval whorls smooth). Teleoconch whorls commonly with subsutural collar, either weak (ribbon) or strong (welt). Shell commonly ornamented with spiral and collabral ribs producing granular to tubercular pattern; spiral ribs commonly not dominant. Aperture ovate to suboval and can be posteriorly notched next to suture and coincident with subsutural collar. Aperture can be umbilicate, pseudoumbilicate with narrow chink, or non-umbilicate. Columella smooth or with fold at onset of long siphonal canal. Siphonal canal long, straight, slightly curved (to left), or narrowly twisted. |
