Hyopsodus miticulus
Taxonomy
Esthonyx miticulus was named by Cope (1874) [also attributed to Leidy 1870, probably a lapsus involving Hyopsodus paulus]. Its type locality is Almagre Arroyo (Cope), which is in a Wasatchian terrestrial horizon in the San Jose Formation of New Mexico.
It was recombined as Hyopsodus miticulus by Cope (1875), Cope (1877), Osborn (1902), Hay (1902), Matthew (1915), Hay (1930), Gazin (1968), Gingerich and Gunnell (1979); it was considered a nomen dubium by Redline (1997).
