Taxonomy
Acanthoceras johnsonanum was named by Stephenson (1955). Its type specimen is TJSNM 108846, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was corrected as Acanthoceras johnsonianum by Stephenson (1955); it was recombined as Cunningtoniceras johnsonianum by Kennedy et al. (1988); it was misspelled as Cunningtoniceras johnsonianum by Kennedy (1988); it was recombined as Cunningtoniceras johnsonanum by Cobban et al. (2008).
