Taxonomy
Palaeoniscus costatus was named by Eichwald (1860). It is not extant. Its type specimen is SPMM 93/107, a partial skeleton (Incomplete fish lacking head and pelvic fins).
It was recombined as Amblypterus costatus by Woodward (1891); it was recombined as Eurynotoides costatus by Minikh and Minikh (1990); it was recombined as Amblypterina costata by Berg (1940) and Esin (1991).
