Taxonomy
Palaeoniscum macropterum was named by Bronn (1829). Its type specimen is NHMUK PV P.3453 and P.2072 counterpart, a skeleton (Nearly complete fish), and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Amblypterus macropterus by Agassiz (1833); it was recombined as Elonichthys macropterus by Woodward (1891), Hay (1902); it was recombined as Rhabdolepis macropterus by Troschel (1857), Schultze et al. (2021).
