Taxonomy
Arctomys minor was named by Kellogg (1910). Its type specimen is UCMP 12538, a partial skull ( Part of a left maxilla with P3 and, P4; part of a right mandibular parts of upper and lower incisors; right M2 and M;3 in a fragment of the maxilla; M2 and M3 ), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Thousand Creek Formation, which is in a Hemphillian terrestrial horizon in the Thousand Creek Formation of Nevada.
It was recombined as Marmota minor by Wilson (1937), Bryant (1945), Black (1963).
