Taxonomy
Lingula ovata was named by M'Coy (1846). Its type specimen is NMI G.2.1976, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Black Head, Gerringong (USNM coll), which is in a Wordian marine sandstone in the Gerringong Formation of Australia.
It was recombined as Lingulella ovata by Cocks (1977), Parkes (1994).
