Taxonomy

Meniscotherium chamense was named by Cope (1874) [genotype; also, but probably incorrectly said to be 1881]. It is the type species of Meniscotherium.

Synonyms

Hyracops socialis was named by Marsh (1892). It is the type species of Hyracops.

It was synonymized subjectively with Meniscotherium chamense by Simpson (1981), Williamson and Lucas (1992).
Meniscotherium robustum was named by Thorpe (1934). Its type specimen is YPM 10101, a skull (skull and jaws), and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was synonymized subjectively with Meniscotherium chamense by Williamson and Lucas (1992).
Meniscotherium terraerubrae was named by Cope (1881).

It was synonymized subjectively with Meniscotherium chamense by Granger (1915), Thorpe (1934), Williamson and Lucas (1992).
