Taxonomy
Ammonites mackayi was named by Hector (1886). Its type specimen is GNS CE.794, a partial shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is V22/f8481, Mackay Collection from Middle Waipawa, which is in a Piripauan marine horizon in New Zealand.
