Taxonomy
Voluta kirbyi was named by Merriam and Turner (1937). Its type specimen is UCMP 33694 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UCMP loc. A-1315, Fenn Ranch, west of Winters, which is in a Ypresian submarine fan shale in the Capay Formation of California.
