Ammonites gumbrechti was named by Oppel (1862) ["A characteristic ammonite species, whose description and illustration we can expect in a soon-to-be published work by H. U. Schlönbach in Salzgitter"]. It is not extant.

It was recombined as Jamesonites gumbrechti by Howarth (2013).
