Taxonomy
Ammonites tessonianus was named by d'Orbigny (1846). Its type specimen is MNHN.F.R.04188 or BMNH 37228 and is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Dorsetensia tessoniana by Enay et al. (1994).
