Inoceramus comancheana was named by Cragin (1894). Its type specimen is USNM 32686 and is a 3D body fossil.
It was corrected as Inoceramus comancheanus by Kues and Lucas (1987); it was recombined as Gnesioceramus comancheanus by Walaszczyk and Cobban (2016).
